The Sinister Motive Behind The Second Amendment

The Second Amendment was drafted by James Madison, a slave-owning Congressman from Virginia who would later serve as the 4th President of the United States. The concepts in the Bill of Rights were derived directly from the Virginia Declaration of Rights, written in 1776 by George Mason, a plantation owner in charge of over 300 slaves who would serve as a delegate at the U.S. Constitutional Convention in 1787. One of the more influential supporters of the Bill of Rights was Patrick Henry, an attorney who had served twice as Governor of Virginia. These three Virginians knew that in order for their native state and other slave states to vote in favor of ratifying the Bill of Rights, a measure had to be put into place to preserve the state militias in the South, which doubled as slave patrols.
