Yes, it’s early. Yes, it’s only early polls — but Hillary Clinton got into a rut early in 2008 and never got out of it until it was too late. Bill Maher offered to change all that for Mrs Clinton. Half serious and half tongue in cheek, Maher dished out advice in his best “Trump” voice part of the time which got great laughs but reflected how Trump has captured people’s attention with his uber populist message that might be called downright liberal on some levels if not coming from the mouth of a self professed “republican.”
Trump hasn’t put out much in the way of details on anything but has simply rallied people on a message of “making America great again” type sloganeering and New York style tough street talk. So far, Trump leads in almost every poll out there, and appears to be gaining strength as the summer rolls on.
Maher is convinced of one thing that was evidenced within the jokes. Clinton needs to open up. Everyone needs to open up. Americans are tired of this controlled, tight to the vest, focus group and poll tested “triangulation” that seems to have infected both parties. Clinton needs to bring joy in to what some have called a “joyless” campaign.
Some of Maher’s advice is purely for the laughs, but there is actually an appropriate message underneath it all. Clinton does need to steer her campaign into a more spontaneous, open and honest approach. Take some tough questions and some firm positions and damn the consequences. Both Trump on the righ and Sanders on the left have found that spark. Some of it may be planned, but I think for both Trump and Sanders it mostly come from the heart. Agree or disagree, both believe most of what they are selling. Clinton and others need to find and speak from their hearts.
That might be worth a million to Mrs Clinton. Check out the very funny and pointed clip HERE:
