It’s not that Trump can yet measure anything as president because he’s accomplished absolutely nothing as of yet. Except signing a few presidential edicts that would have Republicans at full froth if they had been done by a Kenyan Muslim. Trump is merely a product of his environment and none of it is good. What a broad swath of “Muricans” have done is to vote for a man they envy in his awful mediocrity. They don’t believe in Trump any more than the Romans believed in Christians when they were feeding them to the lions. It’s the spectacle that Trump can provide them, while they grind out their existence in jobs that are slowly strangling whatever vestige of the American dream is left. They know it’s dead more than anyone else. It’s been dead since that crook Nixon got it in the tub and Reagan murdered it.
If you aren’t sure of the unquenchable thirst Americans have for wrecks of any kind, simply notice every rubberneck on the freeway that hopes to see a smattering of brains on the public roads every time some poor motorcyclist learns what force will do to a human body. Who better to sate their desire to see the rich man get his just due than Donald Trump? He’s the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous everyone thinks it means to be a rich man. He’s been screwing the system for decades. He’s profited from it and made billions by screwing more working people the electorate will never know. Their attitude is that if you play with a snake, you don’t complain about getting bit.
“Of course Trump screws people! The rich do it every single day!”
If social media has done anything, it has whittled away at attention spans across the globe. It was only eight short years ago when the last Republican businessman left the White House, losing 800,000 jobs a month in the process. How could Americans forget so quickly how disastrous starting wars and cutting taxes is? Republicans behave more like a cult these days. In no way are they capable of governing, as they have demonstrated in the Bush years. Their supply-side economic theory has become dogma. Ask any Republican what the business tax rates are and they will likely parrot the 44% number or whatever else Fox has told them. Ask them what business pay after deductions and you will know what Medusa saw when she flashed her eyes on anyone.

“When they go low, we go high” is a nice pleasant thought if you have a degree of upward mobility or can pay an unexpected bill that’s $500 or more. Most Americans can’t and they aren’t listening to NPR while watching WWF. There’s the disconnect from coastal liberal elites and the trade unionist who would otherwise vote Democrat if given a choice, but not this last time. What made Trump so dangerous was that another 4 years of Hillary wouldn’t affect the ‘flyover states,’ not with a gerrymandered House and Mitch McConnell filibustering everything he could.
The real choice was between four more years of the same, watching the greatest show on earth with the greatest Carnival Barker in world history. Every time that disposable income rates have floundered during a 2 term presidency, the party in charge gets the boot. For all of Obama’s success, he could not raise household incomes until the last year of his presidency. Thanks in large part to Republicans who believe in making the minimum wage as minimal as possible.
The Liar In Chief
Trump is a naturally born ignoramus that is the result of being born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He never had to study. He never had to work and he is by any account a terrible businessman. When Ted Cruz was still in the race, none of the other candidates would call him the liar that he is. Hillary sat in the background and let Trump pound on them, which was a mistake, in the hope she could just coast into the White House.
The people know when they are being lied to. The lesson Cruz never learned at Harvard was, never assume people are stupid enough to believe your lies. Especially not when you’re lying 90% of the time. When Trump started calling politicians liars, that gave old political dogs their first erections in years and as a showman, he would only lie 60% of the time. Compared to Rubio and Cruz, telling the truth 40% of the time was a marked improvement.
Historians in the years to come will have much more insight into what happened in the 2016 election and how much Putin helped Trump. What we do know is that patriots far and wide feel like we’re in quicksand because we’ve never had a man who could not win a single category on Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? as president before. Not only is Trump the dumbest white man to ever soil the halls of the White House, it has become painfully obvious that he could not pass a mental competency examination. His interview with David Muir proved he has no connection to reality.
Paul Ryan can barely contain the glee inspired by his plans to sacrifice as much of the social safety net possible, on his alter to that psychopath Ayn Rand. The Kochs finally have a compliant ignoramus that would sign over property rights to the Grand Canyon if they promise to drill baby, drill on it. Mitch McConnell is ecstatic that he will be able to unleash the full power of an unregulated capitalistic rigged market. The train is at maximum speed and the bridge is out. We can only hope that the Trump doesn’t set off any nukes, as the disaster that his presidency already is, unfolds.
