Rachel Maddow has been breaking down corruption in the Trump administration like a champion and this serves as no exception. However, the addition of roasting a Russian Oligarch for being a cheap skate is certainly the icing on the cake that brought us an awesome case of the chuckles.
Oleg Deripaska, the subject of Rachel Maddow’s hilarious rebuke, had taken out an ad in The Wall Street Journal, Rupert Murdoch’s pro-corporate financial news outlet.
Deripaska’s ad was a response to an exclusive report from the Associated Press detailing his dealings with Paul Manafort and how Manafort was working for the oligarch to advance Putin’s agenda abroad.
This didn’t sit well with Deripaska who then decided to strike back by taking out the ad claiming he has never operated covertly to push the Putin’s agenda.
“I want to resolutely deny this malicious assertion and lie. I have never made any commitments or contracts with the obligation or purpose to covertly promote or advance ‘Putin’s Government’ interests anywhere in the world,” Deripaska proclaims in the advertisement. “Misleading stories like this one create a defamatory news flow and generate background information based on complete lies.”
Yeah sure, the Associated Press is misleading and lies. If you believe that, we here at American News X have a fantastic bridge we think you might be interested in purchasing.
This, of course, prompted the Queen of prime-time news to deflate the billionaire’s ego. You can check out that video below.
Rachel Maddow’s coverage extended beyond the distended, bullying billionaire’s demands, however. She sat down with NBC’s Richard Engel who exposed another story altogether that took him globetrotting to Europe where his digging led him down the dank and dark history of Paul Manafort’s seedy suspected money laundering in Cyprus.
Of course, we wouldn’t leave you hanging. You can watch that interview below.
