It seems that #Russiagate is fading from some American’s radar as The President impotently (as Keith puts it) bombs empty Syrian airfields and raves about his Country Club’s chocolate cake. Keith Olbermann isn’t distracted, however. While everyone else is wondering who Trump will bomb next, Olbermann sees a bombshell that got dropped that a lot of folks missed. (see video below … )
In his latest commentary, Olbermann says that it is possible that the British may have the goods on Donald Trump, on tape — twice. For some background evidence, Keith points to a recent Guardian article that alludes to their intelligence having “concrete evidence” of collusion between the Russians and the Trump campaign:
One source suggested the official investigation was making progress. “They now have specific concrete and corroborative evidence of collusion,” the source said. “This is between people in the Trump campaign and agents of [Russian] influence relating to the use of hacked material.”
In addition to that, Keith points to an Eric Trump quote saying that bombing Syria somehow validates the idea that there are no Russian ties.
Finally, for background, Olbermann cites a British magazine (Prospect) quoting one of their “top spies” as saying that the key to all this might be Trump’s financial dealings during the 2008 financial crisis when no American or Western bank would lend him a dime. That is when many speculate that Trump went to Russian banks for funding.
That is just the background, though. The real crux of Olbermann’s contention is former Parliament member and current investigative reporter, Louise Mensch’s writings just yesterday that say:
Sources with links to the intelligence community say it is believed that Carter Page went to Moscow in early July carrying with him a pre-recorded tape of Donald Trump offering to change American policy if he were to be elected, to make it more favorable to Putin. In exchange, Page was authorized directly by Trump to request the help of the Russian government in hacking the election.
Furthermore, in her reporting, Louise Mensch says there may be a second recording of Trump colluding:
“… a recording exists of all three men discussing the possibility of Page taking the tape of Trump to Moscow as an earnest of good faith. There is a minor dispute over whether Trump himself is also on that tape …”
Keith then goes on offense against those who might dismiss this report or Louise Mensch in general. He points out that some might point to her not being exactly right when her reporting on this subject first appeared, way before any of the “mainstream media” picked up on possible Russian ties — but she got most of it right, as Olbermann points out. Second, that the Trump people wouldn’t be so stupid to put Trump on tape offering to trade favors. Keith rebuts that with pointing to the recent Chris Hayes interview with Carter Page where he manages to contradict himself at least five times in five minutes before a bungled confession.
But really, say critics — who would be stupid enough to put it on tape? Who would be so arrogant to think they were that invincible? For that, Keith has two words — Richard Nixon.
