Sen. Mitch McConnell goes to great lengths to avoid his own constituents. But one woman just handed him his sorry ass on a glorious platter, and it was beautiful.
“Winners make policy and the losers go home,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) smugly declared on Tuesday. The 50 business leaders gathered for Tuesday’s Chamber of Commerce event in Lawrenceburg, Ky. ate it up. But some folks weren’t having what he was serving.
The 1,000 so-called “losers” who protested outside were not not going home. After all, they’re his constituents, too…and they’ve got too much to lose under our “new unified Republican government.” Namely, their health insurance under the ACA, which the GOP is hellbent on taking away from them.
The AP reports:
Protesters crowded the American Legion Post 34 Fairgrounds, kept at bay by several police officers and a chain link fence. The crowd chanted “No ban, no wall, Mitch McConnell take our call” — a reference to full voicemail boxes at the senator’s offices — as McConnell drove past in a black SUV.
Mitch McConnell goes to great lengths to avoid the constituents he is sworn to serve. Last week, he escaped them in a waiting car as they greeted him at the airport, only to find 200 more waiting at his house. The event planners and his handlers tried to keep the protesters out. Plus, no signs or video recordings were allowed, except by “credentialed media.”
But thankfully, this unidentified woman managed to get in. MSNBC caught her on video as she blasted Mitch McConnell for cruelly trying to take people’s health insurance away.
“The last I heard, these coal jobs are not coming back,” she declared in reference to popular vote-losing “President” Donald Trump’s false promises.
“And now these people don’t have the insurance they need because they’re poor. And they worked those coal mines, and they’re sick. The veterans are sick. The veterans are broken down. They’re not getting what they need. If you can answer any of that, I’ll sit down and shut up like Elizabeth Warren.”

The fact is, Donald Trump not only lost the popular vote by 2.8 million, he barely even won the states that handed him the Electoral College. At less than two percent, his margins of victory in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida and Wisconsin were vanishingly small.
Furthermore, many people in Kentucky’s Coal Country voted for Donald Trump because they want their jobs back. They did not more of the GOP’s or neoliberal Democrats’ harsh and pro-corporate austerity measures. Now they fear they’ve voted away their healthcare and their black lung program benefits.
But the GOP gives zero fucks about the misery they plan to unleash upon their constituents. They’ve seized power through foul means that include lies, gerrymandering, purging of voter rolls, and voter ID laws. Plus, they exploit the arcane and highly undemocratic system of representation our founding fathers designed so slave owners would have more voting clout.
But the fact is, even if our system was fair and even if a majority of Americans favored the GOP’s agenda, Mitch McConnell is still obligated to represent all of the people in his state, not just the ones who support him. After all, his ample $193,400 salary is paid for by U.S. taxpayers. And that’s the main problem with this “unified Republican government.” They serve their corporate masters and the most avid supporters of their dangerous agenda, and feel free to ignore entire blocks of voters.
Mitch McConnell has several events scheduled for this week’s recess, but they’re hard to get into.

People are also complaining that his office neither takes their phone calls nor accepts their voice mails.

And this doesn’t look like a crowd with the usual young lefties and old hippies. These protesters hail from all ages, colors, and walks of life, and they’ve vowed to follow Mitch McConnell to all his events.

Although the event was held in a cavernous venue, the protesters clearly outnumbered the people who paid to attend.

Here’s more footage from the event and the protest.
