Bill Maher had his finale for his HBO series ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ tonight. He admittedly planned on having a ‘how will the republican party rebuild’ episode. As we all know, things didn’t quite work out that way. Instead, Maher chose to at least use the time on his final monolog (The New Rules segment) to send a positive message to the faithful liberals and progressives.
He compared the recent election to ‘roommate hell’ where two people live together but hate each other. Two people who exist in totally different worlds. He then explained that we can’t just ‘move out’ like roommates — even if the moving out includes moving to Canada or a more progressive country — like North Korea (laughs). America is the place where we had all our great experiences from learning to ride a bike to getting our first regrettable tattoos. ‘Plus, all our stuff is here’ Maher remarked.
Even though he made light of all this, it is true. This is our country. Patriots don’t run away. Patriots fight on. Furthermore, we can’t ignore the other half of the country that voted for Trump or third party or just not for Hillary Clinton. We can unfriend people on facebook, we can’t unfriend 47 percent of the country. That by no measure means that Maher thinks liberals and progressives should give in. Quite the opposite.
What Maher asked those on the left to do was this;
‘America needs you more than ever. Right here, with me — and the rest of the resistance. Until we can figure out how to REALLY make America great again. And don’t let them forget — WE’RE STILL HERE.’
Of course, Bill’s delivery is always funnier. Check out what turned out to be a fitting finale till Bill returns on inauguration day, January 20th, 2017 below;
