“What went wrong?” Debbie Wasserman Schultz must have wondered as she stood on that stage watching her moment of triumph reduced to bitter ashes.
The embattled DNC Chair and congresswoman from Florida started out this election cycle as a top power broker and fundraiser for the Democratic Party. Now she’s in danger of losing her seat, thanks to her abysmally low 19 percent approval rating in the state of Florida.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz had She already resigned as DNC chair amid the email leaks scandal and accusations from the Bernie Sanders campaign. But she was still supposed to speak at a few key events, including Monday’s breakfast for delegates from her home state.
Bernie Sanders delegates humiliate Debbie Wasserman Schultz on stage.
“Good morning Florida. It is so wonderful to be able to be here with my home state,” Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced cheerily. But Bernie Sanders’ delegates were having none of that. The Hill reports:
The Florida lawmaker, who is resigning from the DNC this week after leaked emails showed top members of the organization working to boost Hillary Clinton‘s presidential primary bid, had to strain her voice to yell over the flurry of protestors who showed up to interrupt her speech.
The angry delegates held signs that said “EMAILS,” “NO!” and “Thanks for the ‘help,’ Debbie.” Some of Hillary Clinton’s supporters took pity on Debbie Wasserman Schultz and applauded. But the boos and repeated taunts of “Shame! Shame!” were deafening.
The event coordinator then joined Debbie Wasserman Schultz and admonished:
“Okay, we have a big program today. Let’s hear, let’s be respectful. Please be quiet so Debbie can speak.”
But guess what? After running a rigged primary and sending emails that made it clear she and her subordinates saw Bernie Sanders as a nuisance and did everything possible to destroy his campaign, the Sanderistas –rightfully! — were in no mood to “be respectful.”
“Let’s be respectful???” Screw that.
One Facebook user put many of our feelings towards Debbie Wasserman Schultz in a nutshell.
When the heckling died down, Debbie Wasserman Schultz bragged about all the praise bestowed upon her by Hillary Clinton. She then announced that she’d be working as a “surrogate” for Hillary Clinton, thanked everyone for their “incredible support,” and announced, “you will see me every day on the campaign trail through November 8th.”
Is that a promise or a threat?

Meanwhile, the pundits on MSNBC natter on and on about how angry Bernie Sanders’ supporters are. After all, they won some concessions and got served Debbie Wasserman Schultz’ head on a platter, so what more could they want? Gee, I don’t know. Maybe they wanted a Democratic primary in which Bernie Sanders actually had a chance to win.
