Boy Scouts of America president, Randall L. Stephenson — who is also chairman and CEO of AT&T — and the BSA board of directors decided it would be a good idea to allow Trump a platform to indoctrinate children. Not only did they just piss off the majority of Americans, they may have violated their 501 (c) (3) status as a tax exempt organization. More about that later.
Trump’s meandering, boastful speech included re-litigating the 2016 election in order to validate himself to young boys before bashing his political opponent. Trump also decided he would trash a former President of the United States to thousands of impressionable youth. That former President, Barack Obama, was also a scout. Something Trump never was.
Many of the parents of these youngsters did not expect their children to be subjected to the political sewer that is Donald Trump’s mouth. Especially since there was no announcement that Trump would be making an appearance. Trump is the antithesis of the Scout’s pledge which in part reads “to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”
To top it off, youth participants — or their parents rather — had to cough up a whopping $975 bucks to attend the jamboree. All just to listen to a womanizing bigot politicize the Scouts. The Boy Scouts of America has lost all credibility as an organization for young men to learn how to survive in the wilderness. They are now a tool for the political indoctrination of children for the right. Many people jumped on their Twitter page to let them know just that.
Some compared the organization to indoctrination practices of World War 2-era Germany. In fact, a lot of people did.
It's freaking Hitler Youth. Dismantle the Scouts now. That is it. They will treat women disrespectfully. They will hurt ppl who are different

Others thought it was high time to pull their children and grand children out of scouting altogether:
No longer contributing to this horrendous organization and pulling my kids out!

My son will have no part in the Hitler's Youth program

What a disgusting display by the Scouts. BSA now = Trump Youth, future Nazi's of America. Not what I want my kids to be. EVER.

This is sad and as a former girl scout and a parent, I will advise anyone I know NOT to their child join such organization. 45 breeds hate!

Famed documentary film maker and Eagle Scout Michael Moore also had something to say to the now nationally disgraced organization:
I'm an Eagle Scout. Trump using the 30,000 BoyScouts as his props tonight was a scene out of Triumph of the Will. Shocking abuse of children

But there is another question that simply boggles the mind: Why would Boy Scouts of America — an organization that relies mostly on volunteers and donations — risk offending more than half the nation?
But aside from the ticked off parents that will likely cost them generations of potential scouts (and donors) they may have broken tax law.
All organizations with a 501 (c) (3) status are to be apolitical organizations.
According to Nolo, a legal resource fully staffed with legal experts, Boy Scouts of America could be in some serious legal trouble.
“The federal tax law is very strict on the issue of political campaigning: A 501(c)(3) organization is absolutely forbidden to directly or indirectly participate in any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Violation of this prohibition could lead the IRS to completely revoke your organization’s tax-exempt status or impose excise taxes on your organization.”
This law especially applies to candidates campaigning for public office. Donald Trump began campaigning and raising donations as soon as he was inaugurated. Here’s the GOP’s entire speech at Boy Scouts of America’s National Jamboree.
This is how a U.S. president should address Boy Scouts of America’s National Jamboree.
The Boy Scouts of America have had other sitting U.S presidents speak at the Jamboree. However, those Presidents kept their speeches apolitical as is appropriate when speaking to what is supposed to be a non-partisan organization as seen in Obama’s 2010 speech below.
That none of the scout leaders present would put a stop to the politically charged Trump rally or at least tell him he couldn’t discuss politics at the Jamboree shows complicity in the act. The Boy Scouts of America may have just violated their tax exempt status.
If you are a parent that would like to remove your children from this disgraced organization there is an alternative out there for your kids: Navigators. Navigators are an inclusive group similar to the Boy Scouts without the bigotry and intolerance the Boy Scouts of America have come to represent.
