Trump’s Science-Denying Agenda Gets Humiliating Thumbs-Down As UK Bans Air Polluting Vehicles

Trump is turning America into the biggest loser in clean energy technology

air quality laws ban tail pipe pollution

The UK has apparently taken a cue from Sen. John McCain in giving the thumbs-down to Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord. Like other countries taking climate change and air pollution seriously, the UK is instituting a ban on fossil fuel-burning vehicles by 2040.

According to Think Progress:

Following the lead set by France, by 2040 the UK will only allow the sale of cars that have zero tailpipe emissions, meaning the ban extends to hybrid vehicles. The UK environment department explained its decision was rooted in concern for public health: “poor air quality is the biggest environmental risk to public health in the UK and this government is determined to take strong action in the shortest time possible.”

A stunning 73 percent drop in lithium-ion battery prices since 2010 have enabled these future bans. BNEF projects this trend will continue for at least two decades, with electric vehicles (EVs) becoming as cheap as gasoline cars by 2025, but then quickly becoming cheaper.

India and Norway are also light years ahead of America in energy policy. Their embrace of clean technology makes it even more clear that Trump’s myopic plan is little more than spineless catering to coal and oil company greed. Like the dinosaur bones they extract from the ground, they are going extinct.

Bloomberg predicts:

One thing is certain: Whenever the oil crash comes, it will be only the beginning. Every year that follows will bring more electric cars to the road, and less demand for oil. Someone will be left holding the barrel.

Trump’s backward-thinking, science-denying, pro-pollution agenda is as archaic as the 71-year-old reality TV host pretending to be a leader. Rather than making America ‘great,’ Trump is transforming the country into the biggest loser on the world stage, especially when it comes to clean energy, science, and technology.
