Trump Ends Imaginary War On Coal By Rescinding Obama’s Executive Orders

After the disastrous attempt to repeal Obamacare, today Trump decided to do something that his own Freedom Caucus could not stop, another executive order. The purpose, of course, is to have a lot of pomp and circumstance where Trump takes credit for Ford investing nearly $1.2 billion in Michigan, which they announced in 2015. Before a quorum of coal miners who have lost their jobs, Trump proudly signed an executive order that he said will bring back all their jobs.

The problem is that it’s all a lie.

Trump exclaimed that there’s going to be “clean coal, clean coal, clean coal.” For the past 70 years, there has been a steady and precipitous decline in coal jobs. As of now, coal only accounts for 16% of energy consumption in the US and its steady decline has nothing to do with EPA regulations. It has everything to do with the free market that Republicans claim to be so fond of.

The truth is that there is no such thing as “clean coal,” as anyone with an IQ above a domesticated animal knows. Coal mining is a very expensive way to get energy. It is labor-intensive, it does horrible damage to the environment and it pollutes the surrounding water sources and the Earth isn’t making new coal deposits fast enough to replenish what we have consumed since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. Humans have fully consumed half of this planet’s resources since then, however.

The death of coal mining is coming from two sources that have nothing to do with President Obama’s “overreaching regulations.” With the introduction of fracking, the abundance of natural gas has quintupled. Natural gas doesn’t require machines or many humans to extract it. You simply have to find an abundance of shale, drill a hole in it and start fracking it. All that’s left to do is pipe it to the nearest energy plant. There’s no need for trains to deliver it, there’s not ash left over or as many of the myriad of pollutants that get released into the atmosphere.

And all of that sucks — if you’re a coal miner. Renewable energy, too, is the final nail in the coal industry because as we now know, burning coal is one of the worst things we can do to our environment because it directly contributes to the levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. While Trump thinks that climate change is something invented by the Chinese, American entrepreneurs have fled our shores for China, where they aren’t afflicted with the scourge of American Republicanism; which denies the very scientific facts that our climate is changing and we are the reason why.

China has become the leader in solar energy because people can’t breathe in Beijing due to the smog created by coal-fired electricity plants. It is the greatest of ironies that American innovation is being sold to the Chinese yet Republicans refuse to accept the grim reality that the climate is changing and that Jesus will not save us.

Ohio recently announced that they would close two coal-fired electric plants because they are too economically inefficient to sustain.

All of Trump’s proclamations today about bringing jobs back was nothing but pomp and circumstance that will not accomplish anything in bringing back coal jobs. They’re gone and never coming back. That is the true evil of the conman’s game; he will give all the hope of a more prosperous future for the down and out, take their money, steal their food and leave them with even less than they had.
