Chairman of the Trump campaign for Oklahoma, Republican Senator Ralph Shortey is reportedly facing charges of soliciting prostitution of a minor boy, prostitution within 1000 feet of a church, and transporting for the purpose of prostitution. The Oklahoma Senate has introduced a Resolution imposing punishment on Shortey “for disorderly behavior,” stripping most of his powers.
Update from NewsOk.com: Ralph Shortey turned himself in Thursday, March 16th, after being charged with three felonies involving child prostitution accusations. His bail was set at $100,000. The boy was 17 years old.
Police reported finding an open box of condoms in Shortey’s backpack and a bottle of lotion in the teenager’s backpack.
Police reported in a court affidavit Shortey offered during an online conversation to pay the teenager for sexual “stuff” after the teenager wrote he needed money for spring break. Police reported finding an open box of condoms in Shortey’s backpack and a bottle of lotion in the teenager’s backpack.
Police reported the teenager at one point wrote “I want you bad daddy.” Police reported Shortey, using a graphic word, replied he was going to have sex with “you like a good little boy if you keep calling me daddy.”
Police reported Shortey also called the teenager “baby boy” during their online conversation. Shortey used the online name, “Jamie Tilley.”
The teenager told police he had known Shortey for about a year and the two originally met through a Craigslist personal encounter ad, according to the affidavit.

“This is far too embarrassing to have him speak, vote or represent Oklahoma on any issue,” stated Mark Hammons, Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair.
The night after Shortey allegedly booked a hotel room with the underage male, he had a photo-shoot with Donald Trump Jr., who he referred to as “an extremely electric guy with a magnetic personality” on his Facebook page. The date of the photo was Friday, March 10th.
KOCO 5 News reported that a hotel clerk said that Shortey checked into a Moore Super 8 Motel on March 9th after midnight, asking for two beds. Just a half hour later, police arrived for a wellness check. It isn’t known who placed the call.
“Responding officers found a juvenile male in a hotel room which was also occupied by an adult male. The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation and no additional information can be released at this time,” reported Lt. Kyle Dudley to NewsOK.com.
Reporter Abby Broyles for KFOR in Oklahoma City reported that the boy was 16/17 years old and that the Senator wasn’t present in the Senate Chamber today. Grant Hermes of News 9 reported that Shortey removed himself from the presidency of the YMCA Youth group he had led since 2011 today.
Senator Shortey is married with two children and has been a state Senator since 2010. He attended Heartland Baptist Bible College in Oklahoma City in preparation for mission work in Uganda, according to his official bio.
The Native American’s priorities in the Senate have focused heavily on fighting illegal immigration. In 2011, he introduced anti-immigrant laws called “Arizona Plus” that would allow law enforcement to confiscate the property of undocumented immigrants and criminalize providing social services and otherwise interacting with undocumented immigrants.” The bill would also reinterpret the 14th Amendment to prevent children of undocumented immigrants from obtaining citizenship or getting in-state tuition.
“Little babies come out screaming ‘We want Arizona Plus.’ I can’t ignore them,” he stated.
In 2011, Senator Shortey put Oklahoma on track to become the first state to enact a “birther bill.” He introduced a bill requiring presidential candidates to present a valid, long-form birth certificate before their names could appear on the ballot, concerned with the birth status of President Obama.
In September 2014, Shortey was endorsed by Sheriff Joe Arpaio. “Honored to receive the endorsement of ‘America’s toughest Sheriff’ Joe Arpaio. I have looked up to Sheriff Joe for years and have worked to bring Arizona-style immigration enforcement to Oklahoma,” Shortey commented on Facebook.
In September 2015, Shortey opposed the building of a community health center in an Oklahoma City neighborhood that would offer programs for youth and the elderly. The center was planned to offer mental health evaluations and family planning.
“Most of the people that take advantage of that are people that we really don’t want around an elementary school,” Shortey said. “As you know, in south Oklahoma City, we have a prostitution problem. How many prostitutes are going to come to this location, looking for family planning services that’s right next door to an elementary school?”
But Ralph Shortey is perhaps best known for his 2012 proposed bill to ban the use of human fetuses in food.
“There is a potential that there are companies that are using aborted human babies in their research and development of basically enhancing flavor for artificial flavors,” Senator Shortey stated.
All in all, it seems another religious Republican may have found himself in hot water for something repugnant and illegal, not to mention immoral.
