Just in case you’ve been in a coma for the past year, there’s this annoying little issue, an offshoot of the Trump/Russia scandal, that you might want to know about.
It’s a universally accepted FACT that Russia interfered in our 2016 election. Even the fool in the White House has finally accepted it (though it’s no longer a hoax. Now he says it’s Obama’s fault.)
Both houses of Congress, in a rare display of camaraderie, voted on a sanctions package to punish Russia. It was hardly a squeaker: 98 to 2 in the Senate, 419 to 3 in the House. Not since 9/11 have we seen such a display of bipartisanship on Capitol Hill.
But the man in the Oval Office is refusing to implement the sanctions. He says they’re not necessary. And none of his party brethren can produce so much as a single testicle, and demand that he carry out the overwhelming will of Congress and We the People.
The Director of the National Security Agency, Admiral Mike Rogers, told an open committee this week that the president has not… has not commanded him to do anything about it. Bupkis. Even though we’re only eight months away from the midterms, Rogers confessed that nothing that’s being done at present will protect us from another attack on our Democracy.
I always try to look for some sort of “alternative explanation” for any scenario that appears so blatantly obvious. Maybe I’ve missed something. But try as I might, the only one that makes any sense to me is that Trump WANTS another attack. He’s literally leaving the door wide open, rebuffing Congress’s efforts to slam that door… even though by a vote of 517 to 5, lawmakers offered him a package that might at least make Putin think twice about attacking us again.
This POTUS, a man who took the oath; “I solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” doesn’t seem to be on our side. Either that, or the best of his ability just ain’t cuttin’ it.
It’s bad enough that We the People need a bulwark to defend the integrity of our elections from a hostile nation-state. But it seems pretty clear to me we also need to stop Trump from allowing Putin to carry out his mission: The erosion of our nation from within.
Somebody talk me down. Give me a rational, reasonable explanation for this OTHER than what appears obvious: that Trump is leaving our guard down intentionally. Which I suspect is part of the “deal” that his cabal struck with Russia in 2016.
We’ve got to get him out of there, and damn soon. Feet first for all I care. The Republic can’t withstand a veritable Manchurian Presidency for long.
