Donald Trump’s presidency has shown us over and over again, it is that he doesn’t mind throwing money at himself out of our pockets. A feisty California Democrat has set about making that just a little more difficult.
As we all wait in eager anticipation of whatever smoking gun Special Counsel Robert Mueller finds with regards to his investigation of Trump, brave congressman like Ted Lieu (D-CA) are fighting to make sure that Trump doesn’t do the unthinkable and continue to exploit the oval office for financial gain.
The feisty California Congressman is quite serious about making sure Trump doesn’t make another penny off of the White House. In fact, Lieu is so serious that he’s introduced amendments to stop Trump from cynically enriching himself at the taxpayer’s expense.
@Potus shouldn’t profit off of his Presidency. Introduced amendments to stop
@realDonaldTrump from enriching himself at taxpayer’s expense.

Lieu, a strident opponent of Donald Trump and all around decent guy, has let it be known that he’s not going to sit around and let our democracy be torn apart. Unlike craven Republicans, Lieu is doing everything he can to make Trump accountable. Earlier this year, the congressman introduced legislation that would require a psychiatrist at the White House, something he says is overdue but also urgent given his and other people’s concerns about President Donald Trump’s mental health.
“I’m looking at it from the perspective of, if there are questions about the mental health of the president of the United States, what may be the best way to get the president treatment?” Lieu said in an interview with The Huffington Post. “We’re now in the 21st century. Mental health is just as important as physical health.”
Having made a couple of appearances on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Lieu is slowly becoming a fierce (and witty) progressive warrior. And since there are so few of them, we should all rejoice and be glad that somebody in Congress is willing to have the guts to take on Trump. While it’s not certain Lieu will be successful in his valiant efforts to stop Trump from profiting from the presidency, he’s sending a clear message that he’s willing to do anything to stop him from trying.
