Can Conservatives really be this stupid? America’s biggest huckster is pulling the longest con. For years, Donald Trump has been manufacturing a persona that sells things; steaks, wine, buildings, real estate and golf courses; some better than others, but always selling. It’s his “Art of the Deal.” And what The Donald knows, is that it’s easy to sell, especially to people who are gullible and easily duped.
What he knows even better is that he can’t deliver what he’s selling.
Donald has been mesmerizing the lower-intelligence crowd with his amazing shell game. Unfortunately for us, his followers aren’t quick enough to figure out the game, even when he turns the shells over to reveal the scam. They are just excited that someone has some nuts and balls and is mildly entertaining.
Everyone else looking on wonders how people can be so easily duped, but then realize that the same people that are “amazed” by the magic are the same people who are easily entertaining by anything shiny. Like a “reality” TV star shining brightly in the void of a Republican candidate field. No big surprise there.
But here’s the thing. All things that glitter are not gold. And so it is with The Donald. While he tries to be the Midas Man, he really only effectively is turning himself orange. It’s a far cry from gold. Even his coif, which sits upon his head like straw spun into gold by Rumpelstiltskin, is a con.
Here’s what works out really great for Donald and his shell game–he appeals to a very specific crowd and what psychological studies have indicated is that, well…they are not very smart. That’s right, I said it. To make things even better and is great news for Liberals is that–it’s provable.
In a study called “Bright Minds and Dark Attitudes,” researchers found that having a lower general intelligence (IQ) in childhood predicted conservative and racists ideas in adulthood. The short of it…having a low IQ makes you gravitate towards socially conservative ideologies making you more likely to be a conservative voter and, surprise surprise, a racist.
Case in point, a Trump rally. I know it’s hard to tell, but sometimes, if you look really close at a Trump rally, you will see evidentiary proof of this such as black women getting pushed around and berated with racial slurs, people yelling obscenities about Muslim culture, black men getting kicked or punched in the face or a whole town incited to riot (i.e., Chicago on March 11, 2016).
I’m not a scientist, but that data seems pretty reliable given the day to day examples we are seeing broadcast every minute on television.
The racism at this Trump rally is palpable.

Now that’s not to say that there aren’t smart Republicans out there. Probably more than you’d like to believe. I, personally, am continually amazed at how some really successful Republicans have managed to get less successful (poor) Republicans to vote against their own best interests. This is proven when the Red States, which are also the poorest states, continually vote for Republican/Conservative leadership that keeps them in their poor status: voting against raises in minimum wage, doing away with programs such as Medicaid, cutting college funding. One has only to look at the new governorship of Kentucky to see this in action with a Republican governor, Matt Bevin and his “conservative” agenda rolling back any progress the state made before he stepped into office.
What these studies also proved was that the low-intellect, conservative voters also were jammed pack with religion. The reason being? Low intelligence, conservative thinking, and religion all fell under an authoritarian theology. Yep, they like to be told what to do.
They also enjoy not having to think bigger thoughts such as trying to get along in a world with varying cultures and races. They want things simple. Muslims are bad. Mexicans must go. Kill or deport them all. Problem solved.
As a matter of fact, in four different studies applied by University of Arkansas researchers, the final product, “Low-Effort Thought Promotes Political Conservatism,” found that situations causing low-effort thought lead to more conservative beliefs and prejudices– “when effortful, deliberate thought is disengaged, endorsement of conservative ideology increases.” In other words, when you quit thinking; you become more conservative.
A Kent State University study found that lower abstract reasoning skills lead to higher levels of anti-gay prejudice as well. Consequently, people operating under authoritarian ideas were lacking in abstract reasoning skills and it increased their prejudice against gays. Not that it takes a study to show this as we see conservative government embracing religion in a big way and weaving it into all the ways they can try to regulate people’s behavior.
But don’t take researcher words for it, let’s look at another tool used to show this FACT that conservatives are not as cool or as smart as Liberals…science! Yes, that thing that tells us that the planet is getting warmer but only inspires Republicans to stick their heads further up their asses.
Medically speaking, though, there is actual verifiable proof that Conservatives and Liberals are different when it comes to their actual physical brains. In the study, “Political Orientations are Correlated with Brain Structure in Young Adults,” researchers performing MRI scans (not subject to the possibility of “liberal bias”) of subjects found that “conservative students had a larger amygdala than liberal students.”
What does this mean?
The amygdala is the part of your brain that is active during states of fear and anxiety. The larger the size, the more it positively correlates with aggressive behavior which is seen across all species, not just humans.
So this appears to fit the conservative ideology, which seems to be in response to an underlying, threat-oriented biology leaning towards ideas of a strong military, tough law enforcement, resistance to immigration and the desire for widespread availability of guns.
The study also showed that Liberals had a more active anterior cingular cortex region.
But what is the “anterior cingular cortex,” you ask? Why it’s the part of the brain that handles complex thought. It’s responsible for error detection. Maybe that’s why Liberals are quick to point to FACTS instead of FEAR (similar to FACTS vs FOX News).
Another benefit of this cortex is conflict monitoring; being able to use the brain for problem resolution rather than trying to deal with things in a physical manner. The cortex additionally plays a part in consciousness and appears to be involved in the emotional reaction to pain rather than to the perception of pain itself. That means that Liberals feel the emotional impact of pain and not just the physical.
We are different…Liberals and Conservatives. It’s biological.
So the next time you call your Republican/Conservative friend an idiot, you will probably feel the emotional pain of having said it, but that doesn’t make them any less of an idiot.
If they are voting for Donald Trump, the billionaire huckster, with his many tricks up his sleeve, they obviously DO have a low IQ and can’t help it that they are most likely, by way of biology and ideology, going to vote “conservative.”
But there’s a reason “conservative” begins with “con.”
