Former first lady Michelle Obama gave men some advice while speaking at the first Obama Foundation international summit. She explained that we raise boys differently than girls and then advised that men should try talking to each other like their female counterparts do.
“It’s like the problem in the world today is we love our boys, and we raise our girls,” Obama said on Wednesday. “We raise them to be strong, and sometimes we take care not to hurt men — and I think we pay for that a little bit.”
“Y’all should get you some friends,” Obama said jokingly, although there is a lot of wisdom in her jest. “And talk to each other, because that’s the other thing [women] do — we straighten each other out on some things, our girlfriends.”
The former first lady didn’t stop there and proceeded to question just what it means to be strong.
“It’s powerful to have strong men, but what does that strength mean? You know, does it mean respect? Does it mean responsibility? Does it mean compassion?” Obama continued.
She then said that perhaps men feel “entitled” and “self-righteous” because women protect them, a theory that conservatives are not likely to accept any time soon.
“Are we protecting our men too much so they feel a little entitled and … self-righteous sometimes? But, that’s kind of on us too as women and mothers, as we nurture men and push girls to be perfect,” Obama said.

Obama faced criticism last month after she made the comment that Republicans are pretty much “all men, all white.” What can I say, the truth hurts I guess. For the most part, the Republican party is made up of white men, but apparently saying that hurts their feelings. Just like when they lost their collective minds following the former first lady’s remark that the White House was built by slaves, which it was, we can expect right-wingers to be screaming in outrage any time now.
