In a stunning twist of irony, Melania Trump goes full on Blue and plagiarizes Michelle Obama in her speech on the opening night of the GOP Convention.
During her much touted and anticipated speech as the keynote speaker on the opening night of the GOP Convention Melania Trump took a play from the Obama playbook and, almost verbatim, used the First Lady’s words from the 2008 Democratic Convention.
It has been said that Trump must be on the DNC’s payroll given how he has shredded the entire Republican Party during this Primary season. Now it appears that the Trump team is working truly hard to make the red meat on the opening of the GOP Convention Blue as a CNN commentator opined on live television last night.
Comparing Melania Trump and Michelle Obama’s speeches (CNN)
Andy Borowitz humorously noted that Melania was the first speaker at the Republican Convention for whom English was a second language since Sarah Palin. It is reasonable to ponder whether Melania had a bit of help on her speech, and a speech writer from the Trump camp might be heading to Siberia as we speak.
Here are the lines that are clearly rather similar to one another from Melania’s and Michelle’s speeches as quoted from the Huffington Post.
Melania is shown here discussing the importance of honesty and hard work…
“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect,” Trump told the thousands of Republican delegates and assembled media on Monday night in Cleveland.
In 2008, Mrs. Obama said, “You work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.”
Trump’s spouse also lifted a line about children from Michelle Obama, saying, “We want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
In 2008, Michelle Obama said, “We want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
While Trump strutted out like an orange rooster to the Queen song “We are the Champions” to introduce his wife while Freddy Mercury rolled over in his grave, it is rather interesting that this has become the story from the opening night of the GOP Convention.
I actually rather liked her understated elegance in discussing the opportunity to discuss the sanctity of her marriage as Donald Trump’s third wife. The speech had a tone of kindness- almost humanitarian at times.
Now I know why I was enjoying her tribute. She was ripping off the words of our First Lady honoring a truly humanitarian man. Her husband, Barack Obama.
Well done Rethuglicans… Well done.
You all just all cheered in Cleveland for Michelle Obama!
