Bill Maher Breaks His Silence To Talk Russia, Weed, And The ‘War On Christmas’ (VIDEO)

Bill Maher is on hiatus. he has been since before the election and will remain there until January 20th when the next season of his Real Time show on HBO begins its next season. Maher decided he could remain silent no longer and stepped up to do an interview with attn.com.

Maher began by speaking about the difference between ‘yesterday’s’ GOP and today’s GOP;

‘It was like a glass-bottom boat. I’m looking at those sharks but they couldn’t really get me — and now I feel like the shark can get me, or anybody. We’re just in uncharted waters. ‘ Maher also remarked that after watching the stuff Trump did before he had any actual power gives him pause now that he has actual power.

On his cabinet appointments;

‘The appointments are from opposite land. For education — someone who doesn’t believe in public education. Ben Carson, for example — Surgeon General maybe, cause he was a surgeon. No — Housing!’ He then added, ‘He’s just f*cking with people.’

Maher commented that the thing that scared him most about the election was the ‘Russia thing.’ He called it a ‘slow moving coup’ and is flabbergasted that James Comey and Vladamir Putin were seemingly on the same side there. The HBO host also said that it was the Russian interference was what would truly separate the actual patriots from the faux-patriots, especially in the GOP.

The subject then turned to marijuana legalization. Interviewer Matthew Segal asked Maher if he was more ‘bullish’ on pot’s future with all the gains made in the election. Maher responded by remembering how despite California legalizing medical marijuana over a decade ago he still saw friend’s go to jail when the federal government overruled state laws. With Jeff Sessions, a noted marijuana foe at the head of the Justice Department, we could see a return to those days Maher seemed to fear. He recommended people don’t abandon their dealer in hopes of legal weed as this administration could move things backward over the coming years.

Maher then had some fun pointing out how Trump only does things to extremes. For examples, he used Trump’s penchant for attacking anything and anyone who is critical of him, no matter how small the offense. He also mentioned how no matter what is mentioned, Trump has to be the ‘best’ at anything and everything. It’s all narcissistic extremism from where Maher sits. He also lamented that Trump isn’t atheist or religious and that he is his ‘own god.’

On the alleged War on Christmas;

‘This is the kind of thing where the Democrats time and again are baited on an issue of political correctness when no one gives a f*ck. I’m one of America’s leading atheists. I say Merry Christmas — I don’t give a $hit. Don’t take the bait on all this stuff.’

The former ‘Politically Incorrect’ star also had some advice for those dejected by the election results. He reminded people that we are all still here and it is our job to be vigilant on the issues we care about, especially the environment, which Maher sees as the most important issue of the day.

Finally, Maher spoke out about the ‘injustice’ around the electoral college system and the need to reform it. Of course, he did it in a humorous way;

‘This whole ‘we win the popular vote and they get to be President thing’ has got to change — somehow.’ Maher commented that next year his crusade might need to be ‘Why do we need two Dakotas? If there are four Senators from the Dakota territories then we should have 15 Californias.
