Nobody does research and connects dots like Rachel Maddow and her team. On her show tonight, Maddow dealt exclusively with questions surrounding the Trump campaign and administration’s connections with Vladamir Putin and Russia. In her first segment, Rachel has seemingly found a smoking hot gun and a definite connection between the campaign and Russia. This isn’t a 30-second soundbite, Rachel needed a good 12 minutes to get through the entire story (see video below). It is best we break it down into three sections so it is easy to connect these obscure dots.
Part I – Let’s Get Into The Wayback Machine
Maddow starts her story by talking about the GOP Convention last summer. Some may remember that there were reports about Trump’s campaign being adamant about one issue in the platform. What they got changed was a plank about the GOP being against the Russian hostilities towards Ukraine. The Trump campaign specifically wanted them softened, or eliminated. They got that demand met. After the convention, Trump was asked about the change. Trump claimed he had nothing to do with it.
Campaign Manager Paul Manafort was also asked in an interview about the change in policy. Manafort too played dumb to knowing anything.
Now, those denials seem to be falling apart.
Part II — Fast Forward To Today
Enter former campaign official J.D. Gordon. He is now coming forward as the person in the campaign who did the haggling for that platform plank softening. This all according to a CNN report. Furthermore, Gordon says that he did it specifically at Donald Trump’s request.
When asked why he asked for this specific language, Gordon said;
“This was the language that Donald Trump himself wanted and advocated for”
Maddow then reveals that the F.B.I. is on to this as well, according to Politico. They report that a Russian named Konstantin Kilimnik, with “ties to intelligence” and worked with Paul Manafort, has admitted;
Kilimnik, a joint Russian-Ukrainian citizen who trained in the Russian army as a linguist, told operatives in Kiev and Washington that he met with Manafort during an April trip to the United States. And, after a late summer trip to the U.S., Kilimnik suggested that he had played a role in gutting a proposed amendment to the Republican Party platform that would have staked out a more adversarial stance towards Russia, according to a Kiev operative.
Part III – But Wait, There’s More
Then there’s that “dossier” done by a British intelligence expert. The one that everyone has to call “unverified” and the like. Rachel digs back into that and found something pretty darn interesting.
She first mentioned that Christopher Steele, the former MI-6 officer who coiled the dossier, resurfaced just yesterday. That came as a relief to many were suspecting his demise as he was in hiding for weeks before yesterday. She then mentioned that some of the intelligence committee members are very interested in talking with him. In fact, they are even willing to go to him (in England) which is highly unusual.
In that Dossier, Rachel discovers that one of the lines in it, one of the “baseline allegations” in it appears to be about this whole operation of Russia influencing the Trump campaign … the one that actually happened. It reads;
… the Russian regime had been behind the recent leak of embarrassing e-mail messages, emanating from the Democratic National Committee (DNC), to the WikiLeaks platform. The reason for using WikiLeaks was “plausible deniability” and the operation had been conducted with the full knowledge and support of Trump and senior members of his campaign team. In return the Trump team had agreed to sideline Russian intervention in Ukraine as a campaign issue.
As Maddow puts it — quid pro quo. Others might just say, game – set – match.

Before the segment ends, she also asks more questions. Questions like “what about since the campaign, how has Russia influenced the Trump administration?” Maddow also points out how one by one, every one of Trump and his people’s denials seems to be falling apart. Also, while the dossier is still yet “unverified,” it too seems to be getting “proven” point by point with each passing day.
Obviously, Maddow wants to see more investigation and like many, a special independent prosecutor involved. Perhaps this report might sway more members of Congress to support such things too.
Later in her Russia investigative episode, Maddow showed this chart, published by Congressman Eric Swalwell. Check it out below:
