WATCH: Fox’s Gretchen Carlson Doubles Down On Shocking Statement About Assault Weapons (VIDEO)

Yes, you heard that right...Hell has apparently frozen over. On Tuesday, Fox's Gretchen Carlson shocked viewers with her statement on assault weapons.

On Tuesday, Fox News’ Gretchen Carlson shocked viewers watching The Real Story by calling for a ban on assault weapons. Yes, you read that right. In the wake of the Orlando shooting, Gretchen Carlson — a long-time pro-gun advocate — took to the airwaves and declared:

“There’s no doubt Omar Mateen was able to kill so many people because he was firing an AR-15. A military-style assault weapon, a weapon easier to buy in the state of Florida than buying a handgun. Florida sets a three day waiting period for purchasing handguns, but the state mandates no waiting period for any gun that requires two hands to hold.”

But wait…there’s more. Gretchen Carlson had more to say as she explained that we don’t need assault weapons to hunt deer, protect our families or any other common uses for guns that right-wingers see as under the protection of the Second Amendment.

“Do we need AR-15s to hunt and kill deer? Do we need them to protect our families? I’m in favor of people being able to carry. I think some of these mass shooting would have been less deadly if that were the case. But I’m also with the majority today, taking a stand.”

After this powerful and heartfelt statement, Gretchen Carlson concluded:

“Can’t we hold true the sanctity of the Second Amendment while still having common sense? … I know a lot of you aren’t going to agree with me today. That’s fine. That’s what makes America great.”

Of course, many of the folks in her audience got ticked off and took to Twitter to vent their fury.

But others who don’t see gun culture and gun safety as mutually exclusive offered support and encouragement

Later on Monday, Gretchen Carlson held fast and posted a Tweet that doubled down on her support for an assault weapons ban and thanked fans for their support.
