Donald Trump Likes To Insult Veterans, Too (TWEETS and VIDEO)

In order to gain votes, Donald Trump has been appealing to reactionaries in need of a convenient scapegoat for the entirety of his Presidential campaign. However, it’s possible that this strategy may ultimately work against him in the upcoming election. Though one of his target demographics is American soldiers and veterans, a remark he made during a campaign rally in North Carolina on June 14, 2016 may alienate these men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.

“Iraq, crooked as hell. How about bringing baskets of money — millions and millions of dollars — and handing it out?” Trump said at an evening rally. “I want to know who were the soldiers that had that job, because I think they’re living very well right now, whoever they may be.”

Glibly, a spokesperson from Trump’s campaign stated that the Donald was talking about Iraqi soldiers who stole money. Unfortunately, this is a blatant lie, as the American soldiers were tasked with doling out money to rebuild Iraq’s infrastructure. The day after Trump made his bogus claim at the expense of the soldiers tasked with paying damage compensation to Iraq, Corbin Reiff, a former Non-Commissioned Officer who handled foreign claims for western Baghdad, rebutted Trump’s claim that the soldiers in charge of paying damages to Iraq were embezzling the money in a series of Tweets.

Another Iraq veteran who took umbrage at Donald Trump’s offensive bullshit was Ben Kesling, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal.

Most appalling of all, not only is Donald Trump committing treason through slandering U.S. soldiers who were in a hot combat zone at the time that he alleges the theft took place, his military service record is nil. In fact, despite his bald-faced damned lie that he avoided being drafted for the Vietnam War because his number wasn’t picked, he actually was able to receive student deferments between 1964 and 1968 and an additional medical deferment after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance.

It is also particularly, supremely and hilariously ironic that Donald Trump, a businessman with a long history of stiffing numerous employees and contractors for services rendered, would accuse combat veterans of theft. However, this dishonesty is not surprising, considering that Trump said on CNN that he was O.K. with the mandate within the Affordable Care Act that stipulates that everybody have health insurance and also said that people with a pre-existing health condition should still be eligible for insurance, but declared via Twitter the next day that he would repeal all of the Affordable Care Act, including the mandate. “Period.”

The Washington Post did point out that there were various forms of theft on the part of several U.S. soldiers that according to the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, or SIGIR, cost the U.S. government $8 billion, but noting Corbin Reiff’s account, asserts that the thieves made up a tiny minority.

Considering everything, it becomes transparent that Donald Trump is using the age-old tactic of exaggeration to appeal to narrow-minded voters who are irrationally fearful of government overspending. Unfortunately but not surprisingly, the veterans who used the money set aside for rebuilding Iraq appropriately are seeing right through it. Though he has feigned concern for the quality of care at VA hospitals and bragged to Fox “News” about raising $6 million for struggling veterans, clearly these are vapid publicity stunts conducted strictly in the interest of standing for what he expects people to fall for.

Being that in 2012, veterans made up roughly 11 percent of the 129 million plus votes counted, it’s fair to say that once again Donald Trump has really fucked up with running his mouth. Hell, that’ll probably be another 14 million or so votes for the Democrats come this November.
