The Dalai Lama shared his assessment of Donald Trump’s impact on America and, big surprise, he did not have good things to say. Speaking to the Washington Post, the Dalai Lama said that thanks to Trump’s presidency, the United States has become more “selfish” than ever.
“Your ancestors really considered the importance of liberty, freedom, democracy, these things . . . The present President, in the very beginning he mentioned ‘America first.’ That sounded in my ear not very nice,” said the exiled Tibetan leader.
The Dalai Lama admitted his mistake in thinking Trump would somehow mature and not behave like a total idiot once he made it into the White House. He said he had “no worries” about Trump’s campaign rhetoric and believed that he would change after being elected. But obviously, this isn’t what happened.
Pointing to Trump’s decision to roll back environmental protections aimed at saving the planet and his ever-increasing p*ssing contest with North Korean
whacko leader Kim Jong Un, he said that he now has some “reservations” regarding Trump’s presidency. However, the Dalai Lama said Trump is the President* and he “must respect” that no matter how much of a moron he proves himself to be while in the Oval Office.
“The present President is not much paying attention to ecology. So on that, I feel some reservation,” the Dalai Lama said. “But anyway, the American people elected him, so I must respect [that].”
The Dalai Lama is right. Trump is most certainly a long, long way from what the founders of this great nation had in mind when they first formed the United States. Trump has not only made our country more “selfish” as a whole, but he has also given his supporters a sense of entitlement and handed them a license to be as bigoted as they please. Not to mention that the whole world is waiting to see what will bring about the end of the world first, Trump’s environmental policies or his threats of nuclear war with North Korea.
