Joy Reid And George Takei Tear Down The Myth Of The New Star Trek Being “White Genocide In Space” (Video)

Since it has been announced that there will be a new Star Trek series this fall (Star Trek Discovery), alt-right types have been trolling around the internet accusing it of being “white genocide in space.” This morning, Star Trek alumni and Internet icon, George Takei sat down with “AM Joy” on MSNBC to refute the ridiculous claims.

For anyone who knows Joy Reid at all, they know that she is a major “Trekkie” and was giddy just to have George on her show. She pretty much let him have the floor. He had plenty to say in pushing back the notions that the alt-right crowd is disseminating:

“Today in this society we have alien life forms that we call trolls,” Takei said. “And these trolls carry on without knowing what they’re talking about and knowing even less about the history of what they’re talking about. And some of these trolls go on to be presidents of nations.”

Takei went on:

“You know, when you go out into space, you’re going to have even greater diversity. These so-called trolls haven’t seen a single episode of the new series because it hasn’t been aired.” He added that  “they don’t know the history of Star Trek, and that GeneRoddenberry created this with the idea of finding strength in our diversity.”

Takei has also been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and here, he found plenty of parallels between the trolls and Trump. He pointed out Trump’s “ignorance” in his attempt to ban Muslims from entering the United States. He emphasized that he obviously, like the trolls, was ignorant of history including when Japanese people like him were rounded up and put in internment camps during World War II:

“The president was totally ignorant of the history of internment here,” Takei said. “And these people claiming that Star Trek is… white genocide don’t know what they’re talking about, they’re equal to the president of the United States. I think the president is as foolish and as uninformed and as ignorant as these trolls are.”

All the “trolling” stemmed from the fact that 2 women, one Asian and one African-American, will be in charge for this new series. What the trolls haven’t realized, apparently, is that plenty of white people will be there in space along with them.
