A Tale Of Trumpery, Tomfoolery, Thuggery And ‘The Matador’

#During Wednesday’s final presidential debate, Donald Trump stunned most of America when he refused to say that he would accept the results of the election.

Responding like he was a contestant on a reality show, the republican nominee said he would keep us all in suspense. “I will look at it at the time.I will tell you at the time. I will keep you in suspense,” Trump answered moderator Chris Wallace’s question of whether he would abide by this country’s democratic tradition by conceding if he lost. The usual dance that follows his numerous outrageous antics is in full swing, as I am sure Trump the matador anticipated: we are all talking about it.

There are several faces of Trump but the two that have dominated this election cycle are “Trump the thug,” and “Trump the matador.” Last night he dangled the red flag before America to keep us distracted and off-kilter. The media has been in reactionary mode this entire election cycle instead of engaging proactively, hence this lewd, sexually predatory, intellectually challenged man who incites political violence, was able to captivate on an unnaturally immense scale.

“Rigged” has been his favorite word for a long time, so it is not surprising he pulls it out now. Clinton pointed to his pattern of using that accusation anytime he loses or senses he will. But I think there is more at play here. Trump is many things but stupid he is not. He read the tea leaves a long time. I believe he is using this presidential platform to propel himself forward. The man is as oily as a snake-oil salesman, so he sees opportunities around every dark corner. So a loss, with the right “rig spin,” is a win in his book. He sees that there are millions of Americans who thinks the sh*t he’s selling is edible and that translates into a chunk of consumers he can hook for his next gig. Trump TV maybe?

I have never seen such blind loyalty except with extraordinary, visionary figures or terrifying demigods. The first presidential debate pulled in a record-breaking 84 million viewers. The country reacts to everything Trump, letting him suck the oxygen out of the election coverage. So by now one would think that his pathology would be widely understood. Why are people still stunned by what he says? He called Hillary Clinton “a nasty woman,” during the debate but that is in keeping with the “thug behavior” the man has displayed for over 16 months.

Yes, I said thug. I know the word has been reserved for black men but Trump exhibits more crass, bigoted, racist, sexist, misogynistic, dishonest, dangerous and predatory behavior than any young black man sagging his pants and wearing a hoodie—the definition of “thuggery” by many conservative talking heads on television. The thing Trump supporters seem to love the most about him is his political incorrectness. They say to hell with this PC culture strangling America, they love “their” leader because he gives it to you straight, no chasers. Ivanka Trump once defended daddy’s thug behavior, calling it blunt talk.

Some of the tee-shirts worn, even by children and placards on display at Trump rallies show a shocking amount of what he exhibits himself. “Trump that bitch,” ‘Hillary sucks, but not like Monica,” were emblazoned on shirts sported by two pubescent looking boys. “Trump can grab my p**y,” read one woman’s pro-sexual assault shirt. At every rally, the vulgar and racist jockey for positions of prominence, while Trump, in his desire to hold on to the intoxicating power he has just gotten, eggs on the thug behavior with his brand of inflammatory toxicity from the podium.

But as much as we would like to blame him for the all of it, we can’t. He does deserve a huge chunk of the blame for exploiting, thus legitimizing the behavior but he didn’t create it. This cesspool has been festering and started to rear its ugly heads around the time of Tea Party’s birth. And the tea party was born after America elected a man with a white mother, black African father and a “foreign” name.

Too much blunt talk? Just keeping it real the way Trump has.

The deplorable behavior got louder and nastier and Republican leaders stuck their heads in the proverbial sand. The Tea Party sent right-wing extremists to Washington to help shut down the government. The birther movement rose simultaneously and found a champion in Donald Trump. Republican leaders remained silent as “thug Trump” pulled off a coup. The “emperor” stood before them naked while his gullible subjects thought he was clothed in the finest of robes. Being the savvy marketing guy that he is, Trump uncovered America’s ugly underbelly and stoked it into intensity–which translated into loyal votes.

Trump’s white noise rose to a crescendo and devoured the Republican party. Most of the GOP remained silent until it was too late. Now it looks like almost half of the country is on a diet of hate, the Grand Ole Party is about to implode and “Trump the thug” is preparing to drive the first truckload of dynamite. While “Trump the matador” keeps waving that red flag to dazzle and distract, looking ahead to his next act.
