The Burdens of White Privilege Are Endless

Hanakkah Trance 2014

In what will long be remembered as one of the most awkward moments of his young life, recent Kingsborough Community College graduate Michael McCormick makes the long trek with his father to The Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences to watch his sister Lily perform in the ninety-minute long 2014 Holiday Spectacular with 23 other out-of-tune 9th graders.

Wearing a cotton blend sweatshirt to guard against the chilly Brooklyn air, the father and son had emblazoned the words “I CAN BREATHE” across the front to show support for Lily, who has had an uphill battle fighting chronic obstructive pulmonary disease caused by smoking illegally purchased Virginia Slims from street vendors. Entering the auditorium, Big Mike was heard saying, “I don’t know who this Eric Garner is, but if he makes a mockery out of my little girls wheezing through ‘Let It Go’, I’m gonna call the police.”
